Press Relase: Printess Launches the AI Assistant: One Sentence In. A Finished Product Out

Tessa du Plooy

TEUPITZ, Germany —14 September, 2026 — Printess today introduced the AI Assistant, a conversational designer built into the Printess Editor that turns natural language into working web-to-print products. The AI Assistant can create any personalized product from scratch; business cards, banners, promotional gift items, apparel, greeting cards, invitations and more.

Ask for a twelve-month wall calendar where the buyer picks the year, and the dates and holidays follow. Wait a moment. Thirteen spreads created. Image placeholders sit on every month. A year select-list appears in the buyer panel, wired to expressions that redraw every date grid the second the buyer changes it. Not a picture of a calendar. The product; laid out, scripted, ready to sell.

THE DIFFERENCE

Most AI in print, stops at the artwork. It hands over a flat image and leaves the actual product work like placeholders, the fields, the rules and the buyer flow to a person with a week to spare. The Printess AI Assistant writes the product itself. Every element it creates is a real Printess element: selectable, inspectable, editable with the same tools designers already use. Nothing is flattened, nothing is locked, nothing has to be rebuilt by hand afterward.

When asked why they created the AI Assistant, Printess answered that they are constantly working on ways to make web-to-print more accessible and affordable. A template with sixty frames, a dozen conditional styles and a scripted panel is no longer a fortnight of expensive specialist work. It is a conversation.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

One prompt: “Build a 12-month wall calendar. The buyer picks the year, the date grids and public holidays recalculate. One photo per month, plus a cover.”

What comes back, as native Printess elements:

Then keep talking. Make the month names larger. Add a second language. Put the logo on the cover only. The Assistant reads the template as it stands, changes the one thing named, and leaves the rest alone.

‘It works from your existing template just as happily as from an empty document. It reads the structure, changes the single frame you asked about, and still remembers what you asked for three instructions ago. That is why we stopped calling it a generator. It behaves like a colleague who happens to know Printess extremely well,” said Christoph Schacht, co-founder of Printess.’

NO DEVELOPER REQUIRED

The Assistant also builds the half of a personalized product that customers rarely see coming: the buyer experience. Custom dialogs and panels, buttons and actions, form behavior, validation rules, guided step-by-step flows. Ask it for an interface where a buyer uploads a photo, chooses a style and generates personalized artwork, and it creates the controls, connects them to the AI workflow behind them, and drops the result into the product template logic, buyer interaction and AI generation, assembled in one pass.

Printess already offers image generation, prompt enhancement, background removal, image processing and text generation. The AI Assistant is the layer that wires them into a product someone can actually buy.

‘Product logic, scripting, buyer dialogs; the work that used to need a developer on the project, now starts as one sentence in plain language,’ said Schacht.’

DESIGNERS STAY IN CHARGE

The Assistant works inside the template environment rather than around it. Every frame, field, style and script it writes stays visible and editable. Designers inspect what arrived, adjust what they want, and carry on with the standard Printess tools — repositioning elements, restyling, adding fields, adding behavior — on new products and on the ones already in the shop. That suits both ends of the skill range. Experienced Printess users hand over the repetitive and the technical. Newcomers describe what they want and start from something that already works.

‘AI becomes genuinely useful the moment it can touch the logic of a product instead of only the picture on it. Describe a personalized product, get back an editable template, a buyer interface and the scripting that connects them. The designer still decides everything — the distance from idea to something you can put in a shop simply got much shorter. For businesses without a development team, that changes what they can sell,” said Harshad Ghude, business manager at Printess.’
